Art at Times: CONTEMPORARY ART AND ITS LANGUAGES
A medium is the means through which artists express themselves: painting, sculpture, photography, sound, digital technology, video and performance are just a few examples of contemporary art mediums.
Artists Today often mix them all up, putting them at the same level and going beyond boundaries that have been previously impossible to overcome.
Mediums in modern and contemporary art are not neutral instruments used to conduct a message anymore, they are messages in their own right: from Dadaism to Pop Art, from Body Art to Land Art – they are means of expression and at the same time the theme of the artworks.
The medium is strictly connected to the evolution of the thought behind art and modifies rapidly thanks to the speed of technical progress: nowadays for instance we have the Internet, Computer Generated Imagery, Augmented Reality and Social Medias that dilate even more the possibilities of communication in Art.
